With this in mind, we created exhibITion to promote local artists, give back to our community, and enjoy the company of fellow art-lovers.Three times per year, we feature a local artist’s work on our office walls, host an art exhibition and sale, invite a local brewery, serve wine and hors d’oeuvres, and donate the proceeds of the event to a charitable organization.

The art show is hosted at amshot’s office in Downtown OKC. Admission to the gallery is free, but those 21+ can donate $5 to the featured charitable organization in exchange for a wristband that will allow them beer from the featured local brewery and wine. Memories and Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art presents sixty-seven selected works from a body of art amassed over thirty-five years. Kerry, a retired mailman, and Betty, a former television news producer, have foregone many comforts to live with drawings, paintings, prints, and sculpture as their principal luxuries. Their collection includes works by Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Ernest T. Crichlow, Sam Gilliam, Loïs Mailou Jones, Jacob Lawrence, Gordon Parks, and Alma Thomas, but Kerry and Betty do not search exclusively for well-known and/or documented artists. Rather, they focus on “the importance of gathering and preserving a spectrum of approaches to the black image in order to console the psyche and contribute to a more authentic articulation of the self.”

The result is an eclectic gathering of works crossing different mediums, subjects, and styles by a group of artists of the African Diaspora who—in terms of training, experience, and expression—are strikingly diverse but unified in their use of cultural and historical narratives. As their collection has grown, so has the Davises’ storehouse of memories of discovering new works of art, building friendships with artists, and conversing with museum professionals and other collectors in their home. They have also continued to expose their collection to family, friends, and church members who, while receptive to the fine arts, are unlikely to visit such local institutions as the High Museum of Art in Atlanta—prompting the artist Leon Nathaniel Hicks to refer to their residence as “a museum in a home.” "Memories and Inspiration" brings together an awe-inspiring selection of works, but it is their personal resonance—their connection to the Davises’ hopes, passions, and everyday lives—that gives the collection its unique power.

Memories and Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art is organized and toured by International Arts & Artists, Washington, DC.

Funding for the 2023/24 season of exhibitions and programs is provided by Malinda & Richard Fischer, Riccarda de Eccher & Bill Goldston, Caroline & John Linehan, Suzanne Sugg, and the OSU Museum of Art Advocates.

    • First Bethany Bank

First Bethany Bank has recently started a Community Art Initiative to spruce up our boring bank walls and tables, and add a local community component. We won’t be selling art, but giving local Oklahoman artists a free place to display their piece(s), with a simple plaque for their name and contact info. We cannot guarantee that anyone would follow the contact info to buy art, but we hope so! We will display the piece for a few months and then return it and rotate to another artist. We welcome both wall art and small 3D items that can sit on tables we have in several seating areas around the bank. We have such a diverse community in OKC and it is our mission to bring that diversity a little closer to our clients. We hope to support many local artists by providing this opportunity in the years to come, particularly minorities.

The butteri, or Italian “cowboys” — hailing from the lands spanning from the plains of northern Lazio up through the coastal Italian region of Maremma into southern Tuscany — have a long-standing connection to Buffalo Bill and the history of America’s Wild West.

In 1890, Buffalo Bill brought his Wild West Show to Naples, Italy and proceeded to Rome as part of his European tour to offer the world an authentic wild frontier experience and showcase American cowboy skills. During that time, he met a local duke and prince named Onorato Caetani and a bet, or sfida was made between the two men as to who had the better horsemen. In March, 1890, during Cody’s Wild West Show, La Sfida took place on the outskirts of Rome between the Butteri of Cisterna di Latina (located in the Agro Pontino region, where the original butteri came from), and the American cowboys.

According to Italian lore, the butteri handily defeated the American cowboys thanks to the superior riding skills of a humble, shy, and soft-spoken horseman named Augusto Imperiali. To this day, modern-day Italian cowboys claim that they won the event and Buffalo Bill never paid the 1000 Lire he owed from the original bet. American historians insist it was the Americans who won — the Italian riders failed to tame their horses in a reasonable amount of time, so in the end Buffalo Bill and his ensemble were the big winners. The story of La Sfida or challenge between Buffalo Bill and his troupe, and the butteri, has become a part of the oral tradition of the modern-day Italian cowboys, who still maintain that their ancestors won the bet. Despite the outcome of the historic event, the butteri have managed to preserve their rich, colorful and unique Maremma traditions, which date back to the spread of agriculture in the region during Etruscan times.

Their culture, however, is currently under threat. With Italy’s severe economic downturn, combined with low wages and the intensive physicality of the job, increased grain prices due to the war in Ukraine, and the coronavirus pandemic, the number of authentic, working butteri is on the decline. It is believed there are fewer than 30 full-time butteri across Maremma, and the numbers grow smaller each year.

    • 1515 Lincoln Gallery

This spring, from April 25th to June 1st, 2024, 1515 Lincoln Gallery is honored to host "Head in the Clouds," a thought-provoking exhibition featuring longtime friends and colleagues, Marc Barker and Josette Simon-Gestin. This unique showcase brings together two artists renowned for their distinctive approaches to capturing the essence of both the physical world and the realms of imagination.

Marc Barker, an Oklahoma City based artist with a profound background in both science and art, delves into the ethereal beauty of cloudscapes, translating his contemplations on nature, the environment, and human introspection into expansive compositions. Barker’s work prompts a dialogue between the viewer and the vastness of both the external environment and internal vistas.

Josette Simon-Gestin, hailing from Brittany, France, and a cherished part of Oklahoma City's vibrant art scene since her time living here in 1987, offers a lively contrast with her dynamic figures and vivid backdrops. Drawing inspiration from her travels and the rich tapestry of life, Simon-Gestin’s work is a celebration of movement, color, and the complexity of the world. Her recent experiences in Shanghai’s bustling markets breathe life into her paintings, inviting the viewer into a world where every detail tells a story.

1515 Lincoln Gallery is proud to present this exciting exhibition by two of the gallery’s premier consigned artists. The exhibition promises an immersive experience into the artistic journeys of Barker and Simon-Gestin, whose works, though contrasting, share a common quest for understanding and expressing the multifaceted narratives of life and nature. "Head in the Clouds” encapsulates the exploratory spirit and artistic diversity of both artists. Join us at the gallery for the opening reception on Thursday, April 25th, 6-8 pm.

Monstress is a display of a diverse group of women across the State of Oklahoma. The objective behind this show stems from women being told they are too much. Too big, too thin, too ugly, too pretty, too loud, too quiet, too political, too subdued, simply too much. Each woman featured was asked to provide work that represents to them what it is like to be too much for society. From actual monsters to figurative ones, each piece represents what it is like to be a woman in Oklahoma and the United States. Defining what it is like to be a female who feels like they are being measured by unobtainable standards. Many of these works are a catharsis to the emotional trials of these measurements, others are protests and wages of war against them and some are simply tributes to the beauty found in those we call monsters. Each artist comes to the project with something different to say. From traditional mediums to performance all of these artists have found a way to convey the rise of women as the monsters they are accused of being.
