I am interested in the tactility and visceral quality of fabric; the way it flutters when a person walks by and its malleable, yet fragile nature. I select remnant fabrics of many colors and various textures that excite me but that also present a problem to solve. Additionally, I collect old clothes and fabric from others to up-cycling by dying and using them in my fabric sculptures in order to include individual’s history through their discarded clothing. My earlier work only implied the figure through domestic objects and spaces, but has now evolved towards incorporating the fragmented body. This new body of work contains sinister/dark elements juxtaposed with a highly saturated and playful palette. I am currently exploring this contrast through paper collage and fabric.
