Carrie Kouts

Carrie Kouts was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She received her BFA with an emphasis in Sculpture from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2019. Throughout her life, Kouts was encouraged to pursue interests in biology, natural science, and art history. Her research of the natural world, as well as contemporary society, are the primary influences of her artwork. Utilizing found materials from her immediate surroundings—such as displaced construction soil, concrete, and the remnants of human consumption—Kouts creates artwork that investigates the connection and collision of mankind and the environment. During her artistic career in Oklahoma City, her work has been shown at Momentum, the Fresh Paint Performance Lab, Symbiotic at the University of Central Oklahoma, and ArtNow 2021 at Oklahoma Contemporary. After witnessing the expansive growth of her city, Kouts’s recent work creates a dialogue examining where the natural landscape ends and the man-made landscape begins.
