On the Edge: The Abstract World of Frederick Hammersley traces the artist’s pursuit of abstraction across spontaneous compositions, geometric designs, and works that sought to break from tradition. Frederick Hammersley (1919–2009) is recognized as a key figure in the mid-century Hard-edge movement—a style defined by precise geometric compositions and a strong focus on the relationship between color and form, marked by sharp edges and clearly defined shapes. This exhibition features more than 45 paintings and drawings from the Hugon Collection, offering a unique glimpse into Hammersley’s distinctive style and artistic process.

On the Edge: The Abstract World of Frederick Hammersley is organized by the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and supported by the Hugon Family and generous donors to the museum’s endowment.

Formless Matter and Its Devastating Gestures (28 May 2026)

INSPIRING HOPE Juried Art Show benefiting the Friends of the OU Breast Health Network!

Friends of the OU Breast Health Network is a 501c3 Nonprofit whose mission is to raise funds to help promote awareness about breast cancer and support the work done at OU Health Breast Health Network. The Friends help fund breast mammography screening, biopsies, genetic testing and contrast mammography for women who have no other funding sources as well as support the needs of the OU Health Breast Health Network.

Artwork should "Inspire Hope". Some examples of artwork that may fit with the theme are below, however, these are not required and the theme is up to the artist's interpretation.

-Artwork that shows Hope.

-Artwork that Inspires Hope.

-Positive imagery that Inspires Hope.

-Artwork that shows uplifting imagery that could inspire people battling breast cancer.

International Open Call for Painters, Illustrators, Printmakers and Traditional 2D Artists

Prisma Art Prize opens its 20th edition, continuing its mission as an international platform dedicated to painting and two-dimensional artistic research.

Based in Rome, the prize welcomes artists from all over the world and supports the many directions that contemporary painting can take today: from figurative to abstract, from intimate visual narratives to experimental approaches, from traditional techniques to hybrid forms of image-making.

The 20th edition will lead to the annual group exhibition at Palazzo Merulana, Rome, opening on 5 November 2026, in one of the city’s most significant cultural venues.

Paseo FEAST - Call for Artist Grant Proposals (2 Jul 2026)

FEAST (Funding Emerging Artists Through Sustainable Tactics) is an annual artist grant program managed by the Paseo Arts Association that provides five hopeful artists with the opportunity to fund their creative vision, project or artistic endeavors.

Every October, selected finalists and patrons attend an evening dinner gathering where finalists pitch their projects, and the community selects a winner by vote. The selected artist receives up to $2,000 in financial support for their project and returns to the event the following year to provide an update. All fields of art are eligible!

Call for 2027 Art Exhibits at the PACC (2 Jul 2026)

Looking to have your own art show? Exhibit applications are due on October 1, 2026, for 2027 solo or group art exhibits at the galleries of the Paseo Arts Association's Paseo Arts & Creativity Center (PACC) located in the historic Paseo Arts District.

The PAA Exhibits Committee and PAA Staff provide professional art installation, a gallery poster, press release, artwork labels, social media graphic/post, current exhibit page on website, an opening reception during the First Friday Gallery Walk with the option to hold a private event during the month.

PAA Staff and Volunteers manage sales during regular gallery hours Tuesday-Friday 11a-5p and Saturday 12-5p. The PAA's commission on all art sales is 20%.

The Reed Family: Doel, Jane and Martha (28 Jul 2026)

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Doel Reed Center in Taos, New Mexico, The Reed Family art exhibition brings together works by Doel Reed—an influential printmaker and longtime educator at Oklahoma State University—and his wife Jane and daughter Martha, both creators in their own right. Jane, a watercolorist who also worked in pen and ink, and Martha, a designer and artist. Together, the Reed family reflects a sense of place, grounded in a shared love of home.

Calling all artists of all mediums!

The Radiant Healing Arts Center fall art exhibition is happening in October and we want YOUR artwork to be in it! Applications are now open for artists to submit their work for consideration in our next art show.

❗Important Info❗

*Application Deadline is August 31st

*Artwork must be able to be hung on a wall

*Artists are encouraged to sell their artwork and can host a workshop in our event room. (Radiant collects a 20% commission for sold artwork at the end of the show)

Every 4 months, Radiant hosts a selection of artwork hung throughout the building. Each art show will have an opening night event for the public that will include artist talks, light snacks, and local performers. Artist's work will be for sell during the showing and throughout the entire 4 months of display. Some artists may also choose to host art classes/workshops for the public using the center's event room.

Joy Richardson Exhibition at BancFirst Tower Gallery (4 Aug 2026)

Richardson is a self-described “colorist” whose paintings are built entirely from color and balance rather than recognizable subjects. She works in acrylic for its blending properties, finessing subtle transitions from one hue to the next with everything from the smallest brushes to wide bristles and palette knives, layering tones until each canvas hums. “I’m absolutely passionate about color,” Richardson says. “Dreams in vivid tones saturate my mind.”

Central to every composition is a sense of balance — symmetrical or asymmetrical — that she follows by instinct rather than rule, turning a canvas in all directions until its “color-weight-interest” reaches parity. She even signs her work up the right side as part of that equilibrium. Because no single object anchors the image, the paintings carry a timeless appeal, and viewers tend to describe them with mood adjectives: festive, mellow, energized, peaceful, jubilant, spiritual, or pensive.

An artist with deep Oklahoma City roots, Richardson grew up in the city and earned a BS in Fashion with a minor in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. Her work continues to evolve through new textures, colors, and uses of space. “You’ll see energetic tones and texture intertwine against a serene backdrop,” she says, “often with a saucy jolt that leaves the viewer uplifted.”

The exhibition opens with an artist reception on Tuesday August 4th, from 5 - 7 pm, and remains on view through October 30, 2026.

Selfish Talks: PowerPoint Night for Creatives

Uncanny Art House | September 4, 2026

Got work you want to talk about? We want to hear it! Uncanny Art House is opening submissions for Selfish Talks, a presentation night held during Selfish Art exhibition from Cody Giles. We are inviting artists and creatives of every discipline to take the floor and speak about their practice, or to highlight specific works from their portfolio, in front of an audience. The goal is to give creators a platform and to introduce more people to the work you are making.

Seven presenters will be selected for the evening, with 4 guest speakers to be announced soon.

HOW IT WORKS

Each presenter gets five minutes to present, followed by five minutes of questions from the audience. We will take a break between presentation sets. Presentations will be delivered using google slides.

WHAT TO SUBMIT

You do not need a completed presentation to apply. At this stage we only need your idea: who you are, what you want to present, and why. If you are selected, you will have time to build out your presentation before the event.

Acceptance notifications sent: Monday, August 24

Presenter lineup and presentation titles announced: Tuesday, August 25

Ink the Block Party Artist Applications (6 Aug 2026)

Artist applications are open for Ink the Block Party 2026! We are seeking applications for Woodblock artists, Artist vendors, Muralists, and Volunteers. Actual event date is September 19, 2026 from 2-8PM in the 300 block of downtown Norman, Oklahoma on Crawford Ave.

FEE SUMMARY AT A GLANCE

Woodblock, registration only: $25

Registration plus 2x2 block: $40

Registration plus 2x4 block: $50

Artist vendor: $75

Muralist: Free (with $500 award per selected artist)

WOODBLOCK ARTIST (STEAMROLLER PRINT)

Artists carve a woodblock that gets inked and printed live via steamroller onto at least one piece of washed muslin cloth. OSC-Press supplies 2' x 4' MDF at 1/2" thick; self-supplied blocks must be 2'x2' or 2'x4' and 1/2" thick (other sizes require prior approval). Optional laid-back carving sessions run 6 to 8 PM on two evenings before the event, and artists can opt in to help print on event day. Blocks must be dropped off before 6 PM on the Saturday prior.

Fees:

Registration only (bring or reuse your own block): $25

2x2 MDF block plus registration: $40

2x4 MDF block plus registration: $50

ARTIST VENDORS (MARKET)

Artist market vending on event day. Vendors must provide a sales tax permit number (STS format) or SSN plus their vendor name via the city form, and must collect and remit Oklahoma sales tax (filing a Special Event Promoter application if they lack a permit). Food trucks additionally register with the City Clerk, meet OK Health Department regulations, and pass a Norman Fire Department inspection. Load-in is 12:30 PM, setup complete by 2 PM, and vendors stay until at least 7 PM (breakdown and cleanup at 8 PM).

Fee: $75 standard vending fee.

MURALIST

Four selected muralists create live, large-scale works on dedicated 4x4 ft panels in the 300 block of the Walker Arts District. Shift options include woodblock prep on Sept 16 and 18, event-day shifts on Sept 19 (early 11 AM to 3 PM, midday 2 to 6 PM, closing 5 to 9 PM), and pre-event flyer distribution.

Two artistic processes combine into one shared vision. Sculptures built from recycled materials meet paintings rendered in bold, vivid color. About looking closely at what is often forgotten, misunderstood, or overlooked, and having a deep appreciation for the smallest creatures, with the biggest impact.

"Storm’s Comin’," by Katherine Hair Eagle, is a collection of works made in response to this time that we are living through of rapidly degrading environmental changes. Her work explores signals and necessary entanglements within the natural world, as storms, fires and floods extend their reach and increase in frequency and vigor. How we navigate these changes is a part of our emotional development and our survival, and Hair Eagle’s work is meant to facilitate storytelling and a deeper connection to the non-human world around us.

About the Artist: Katherine Hair Eagle (she/her) is a Tulsa-based artist working in printmaking, installation, painting and zines whose work examines our interconnectedness with the non-human world, and our impacts. Growing up in Oklahoma, Hair Eagle developed a deep familiarity with the natural world around us, and her practice has not strayed from that framework. Much of her work grapples with grief, both personal and ecological, and she is interested in the ways that storytelling might facilitate a way forward. Hair Eagle holds a BFA in printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute, an MFA in studio art from the University of Illinois, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Tulsa Community College.

IN THE SHOP is a solo exhibition by Tulsa-based multidisciplinary artist Chris Kent, exploring the intersection of mechanics, craftsmanship, memory, and contemporary abstraction.

Before becoming a designer, Kent spent a decade as an automotive technician. IN THE SHOP revisits that history through painting, mixed media, and installation, transforming familiar industrial materials, including plywood, resin, aluminum, automotive fluids, and technical diagrams, into works that blur the boundaries between utility and art.

Drawing from the visual language of repair manuals, workshop environments, and the process of rebuilding, the exhibition reflects on labor, making, and the lasting influence of hands-on experience, creating a dialogue between structure and intuition, precision and imperfection.

Presented in an intimate residential gallery setting, IN THE SHOP invites visitors to reconsider the beauty found in everyday materials and the stories embedded within the act of making.

"We all get dressed for Bill," says Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The Bill in question is 80-year-old New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. For decades, this Schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist obsessively and inventively chronicled fashion trends and high society charity events for the Times Style section in his columns "On the Street" and "Evening Hours."

Documenting uptown fixtures like Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Brooke Astor, and David Rockefeller alongside downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham's enormous body of work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place, and individual flair. Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny, and often poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming grace.

Directed by Richard Press, the film was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

The screening is free and open to the public. A discussion will follow.

Uncanny Art House presents Selfish Talks, a presentation night held during Cody Giles' solo exhibition Selfish Art. 11 artists and creatives from a range of disciplines take the floor to talk about their practice or highlight specific works from their portfolio.

Each presenter has five minutes to present and five minutes for audience questions, with a break between sets. The event is built to connect creators with an audience that is there to listen and engage, and to introduce more people to the work being made in the community.

Doors and programming run from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

You will be able see the lineup of presenters once the open call concludes on August 25.

Hello Chili Cooks! Here is the information for the 2026 Chili Cook-Off!

First, we want to thank Room 3 Vintage for hosting us again this year! Room 3 is generously hosting us for our chili contest.

The Village Bazaar will be open from

10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The cost to enter your chili in the contest will be $10.00.

Tickets to taste the chili selections and vote for favorites will be $3.00.

Please contact Mark Ayers (info below) to let us know of your intent to participate and provide us with a “Title” and or “Description” for your chili. We will print a placard to place in front of your chili on the serving table or you can bring your own placard for your chili. The chili tasting will be self-serve by tasters/voters, and TVAA will provide utensils, napkins, and bowls.

Arrival Instructions: Please pre-heat your chili and arrive about 30 minutes before we open. You will need to bring your chili in something that can keep it warm for several hours, such as a Crock-Pot. We will provide as many plugs as we can for food warmers. Tasting and judging will take place from 10 AM to 1 PM. Your chili will be given a random ID number for voting purposes.

Don’t be shy about your chili, and bring a good amount as we did run out of some selections last year before voting ended!

Chili Selection Process: Each voter will be given a ballot to select their favorite from the chili samples they tasted. At 1:00 PM, all of the votes will be tallied, and the chili with the greatest number of votes will win 1st place, the chili with the next greatest number of votes will win 2nd place, and the chili with the next greatest number of votes will win 3rd place.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to 1st through 3rd place contestants! We are looking forward to tasting your chili!

16mm Direct Animation Workshop (10 Oct 2026)

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the art and history of direct animation, working directly with 16mm motion picture film and projection. Over four sessions, participants will explore this unique cinematic language by painting, scratching, masking, and physically manipulating 16mm leader and found footage to create your own animated film. Each participant will receive over 100 feet of film to work on, an HD digital scan of their finished project, and the skills needed to continue their filmmaking practice.
