On the Edge: The Abstract World of Frederick Hammersley traces the artist’s pursuit of abstraction across spontaneous compositions, geometric designs, and works that sought to break from tradition. Frederick Hammersley (1919–2009) is recognized as a key figure in the mid-century Hard-edge movement—a style defined by precise geometric compositions and a strong focus on the relationship between color and form, marked by sharp edges and clearly defined shapes. This exhibition features more than 45 paintings and drawings from the Hugon Collection, offering a unique glimpse into Hammersley’s distinctive style and artistic process.

On the Edge: The Abstract World of Frederick Hammersley is organized by the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and supported by the Hugon Family and generous donors to the museum’s endowment.

Formless Matter and Its Devastating Gestures (28 May 2026)

PRISMA ART PRIZE — ROME — 20th EDITION

International Open Call for Painters, Illustrators, Printmakers and Traditional 2D Artists

Prisma Art Prize opens its 20th edition, continuing its mission as an international platform dedicated to painting and two-dimensional artistic research.

Based in Rome, the prize welcomes artists from all over the world and supports the many directions that contemporary painting can take today: from figurative to abstract, from intimate visual narratives to experimental approaches, from traditional techniques to hybrid forms of image-making.

The 20th edition will lead to the annual group exhibition at Palazzo Merulana, Rome, opening on 5 November 2026, in one of the city’s most significant cultural venues.

Paseo FEAST - Call for Artist Grant Proposals (2 Jul 2026)

FEAST (Funding Emerging Artists Through Sustainable Tactics) is an annual artist grant program managed by the Paseo Arts Association that provides five hopeful artists with the opportunity to fund their creative vision, project or artistic endeavors.

Every October, selected finalists and patrons attend an evening dinner gathering where finalists pitch their projects, and the community selects a winner by vote. The selected artist receives up to $2,000 in financial support for their project and returns to the event the following year to provide an update. All fields of art are eligible!

Call for 2027 Art Exhibits at the PACC (2 Jul 2026)

Looking to have your own art show? Exhibit applications are due on October 1, 2026, for 2027 solo or group art exhibits at the galleries of the Paseo Arts Association's Paseo Arts & Creativity Center (PACC) located in the historic Paseo Arts District.

The PAA Exhibits Committee and PAA Staff provide professional art installation, a gallery poster, press release, artwork labels, social media graphic/post, current exhibit page on website, an opening reception during the First Friday Gallery Walk with the option to hold a private event during the month.

PAA Staff and Volunteers manage sales during regular gallery hours Tuesday-Friday 11a-5p and Saturday 12-5p. The PAA's commission on all art sales is 20%.

The Reed Family: Doel, Jane and Martha (28 Jul 2026)

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Doel Reed Center in Taos, New Mexico, The Reed Family art exhibition brings together works by Doel Reed—an influential printmaker and longtime educator at Oklahoma State University—and his wife Jane and daughter Martha, both creators in their own right. Jane, a watercolorist who also worked in pen and ink, and Martha, a designer and artist. Together, the Reed family reflects a sense of place, grounded in a shared love of home.

$4,500 Artist Grants | The Hopper Prize Fall 2026 (1 Aug 2026)

The Hopper Prize is now accepting entries for $4,500 and $1,000 artist grants.

They will be providing 6 grants totaling $13,000 USD. 2 artists will each receive $4,500 and 4 artists will each receive $1,000.

This is an open call to visual artists age 18 and older. All visual media eligible.

This open call provides you with a direct path to get your work in front of an international community of curators, artists, gallerists, and arts administrators.

In addition to grants, 30 artists will be selected for a shortlist. Additional exposure is available via our online Journal as well as our Instagram feed, currently reaching an audience over 175k.

Joy Richardson Exhibition at BancFirst Tower Gallery (4 Aug 2026)

Richardson is a self-described “colorist” whose paintings are built entirely from color and balance rather than recognizable subjects. She works in acrylic for its blending properties, finessing subtle transitions from one hue to the next with everything from the smallest brushes to wide bristles and palette knives, layering tones until each canvas hums. “I’m absolutely passionate about color,” Richardson says. “Dreams in vivid tones saturate my mind.”

Central to every composition is a sense of balance — symmetrical or asymmetrical — that she follows by instinct rather than rule, turning a canvas in all directions until its “color-weight-interest” reaches parity. She even signs her work up the right side as part of that equilibrium. Because no single object anchors the image, the paintings carry a timeless appeal, and viewers tend to describe them with mood adjectives: festive, mellow, energized, peaceful, jubilant, spiritual, or pensive.

An artist with deep Oklahoma City roots, Richardson grew up in the city and earned a BS in Fashion with a minor in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. Her work continues to evolve through new textures, colors, and uses of space. “You’ll see energetic tones and texture intertwine against a serene backdrop,” she says, “often with a saucy jolt that leaves the viewer uplifted.”

The exhibition opens with an artist reception on Tuesday August 4th, from 5 - 7 pm, and remains on view through October 30, 2026.

Ink the Block Party Artist Applications (6 Aug 2026)

Artist applications are open for Ink the Block Party 2026! We are seeking applications for Woodblock artists, Artist vendors, Muralists, and Volunteers. Actual event date is September 19, 2026 from 2-8PM in the 300 block of downtown Norman, Oklahoma on Crawford Ave.

FEE SUMMARY AT A GLANCE

Woodblock, registration only: $25

Registration plus 2x2 block: $40

Registration plus 2x4 block: $50

Artist vendor: $75

Muralist: Free (with $500 award per selected artist)

WOODBLOCK ARTIST (STEAMROLLER PRINT)

Artists carve a woodblock that gets inked and printed live via steamroller onto at least one piece of washed muslin cloth. OSC-Press supplies 2' x 4' MDF at 1/2" thick; self-supplied blocks must be 2'x2' or 2'x4' and 1/2" thick (other sizes require prior approval). Optional laid-back carving sessions run 6 to 8 PM on two evenings before the event, and artists can opt in to help print on event day. Blocks must be dropped off before 6 PM on the Saturday prior.

Fees:

Registration only (bring or reuse your own block): $25

2x2 MDF block plus registration: $40

2x4 MDF block plus registration: $50

ARTIST VENDORS (MARKET)

Artist market vending on event day. Vendors must provide a sales tax permit number (STS format) or SSN plus their vendor name via the city form, and must collect and remit Oklahoma sales tax (filing a Special Event Promoter application if they lack a permit). Food trucks additionally register with the City Clerk, meet OK Health Department regulations, and pass a Norman Fire Department inspection. Load-in is 12:30 PM, setup complete by 2 PM, and vendors stay until at least 7 PM (breakdown and cleanup at 8 PM).

Fee: $75 standard vending fee.

MURALIST

Four selected muralists create live, large-scale works on dedicated 4x4 ft panels in the 300 block of the Walker Arts District. Free to apply and participate; each selected artist receives a $500 award, is featured in event promotions, and works in a public, family-friendly setting. Artists bring their own supplies, with limited supplies provided by Uncanny Art House. Application deadline is August 31, 2026, with acceptance notifications on September 7.

Fee: none (free to apply; $500 award to each of the 4 selected).

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers can help with woodblock printing prep, setup, hospitality, steamroller printing (inking and layout, or clean-hands fabric handling), live mural assist, live music assist, and breakdown. Shift options include woodblock prep on Sept 16 and 18, event-day shifts on Sept 19 (early 11 AM to 3 PM, midday 2 to 6 PM, closing 5 to 9 PM), and pre-event flyer distribution.

Look Again: Encountering the Art of Otto Duecker features more than 100 extraordinary paintings celebrating the artist's six-decade career in hyperrealism. An Oklahoma State University alumnus, Duecker transforms everyday subjects into astonishing works of art, from lifelike portraits and trompe l'oeil paintings to floating fruit, clothing, handwritten notes, and his iconic Drifters series.

Using only traditional oil paint and brushes, he achieves remarkable illusions that challenge perception and reward careful observation. This retrospective invites visitors to slow down, look closer, and discover the extraordinary craftsmanship and wonder hidden within the ordinary.

The Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants program provides grants of up to $5,000 for recent, unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies experienced by artists in financial need who are creating in the visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, or choreography. This mentorship opportunity supports emerging BIPOC mural artists through professional development, collaboration, and public engagement. Selected participants work alongside established muralists to develop and complete large-scale works before thousands of Festival visitors, gaining valuable experience in public art, creative process, and community impact. Arts Council OKC and OKC Thunder invite artists with a passion for storytelling through murals and a desire to expand their practice to apply.

Tulsa Artist Viola Bloom’s Solo Exhibition PORTAL Opens September 5 at Positive Space

PORTAL explores the theme of transmutation through three distinct but interconnected frameworks: the material structure of the work on display, the backstory of the work’s creation, and the exhibition as a transformative gateway. At the project’s core is a sculptural fashion collection embodying the title concept through surface design and silhouette. Photographs and ceramics provide a context for the garments, defining the mood and expanding the narrative behind the work. The exhibition represents a passage from one world, one sense of reality, to another. It charts a movement from loss to liberation, from destruction to inspiration, revealing a portal in the heart that can morph sorrow and tragedy into harmony, beauty, and abundance.

About the Artist: Viola Bloom is a designer and visual artist working primarily in the fields of fashion and photography. She is drawn to fashion as a mode of expression due to its interdisciplinary nature, as well as its ability to engage the senses, evoke an emotional response, and define and/or challenge roles and identities. Viola’s photographic work has typically centered on experimental techniques, while expanding into more interplay with her design work. She studied fine art and photography at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design, and received her fashion education at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and at Polimoda in Florence, Italy. Viola currently lives and works in Tulsa, OK.

Hello Chili Cooks! Here is the information for the 2026 Chili Cook-Off!

First, we want to thank Room 3 Vintage for hosting us again this year! Room 3 is generously hosting us for our chili contest.

The Village Bazaar will be open from

10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The cost to enter your chili in the contest will be $10.00.

Tickets to taste the chili selections and vote for favorites will be $3.00.

Please contact Mark Ayers (info below) to let us know of your intent to participate and provide us with a “Title” and or “Description” for your chili. We will print a placard to place in front of your chili on the serving table or you can bring your own placard for your chili. The chili tasting will be self-serve by tasters/voters, and TVAA will provide utensils, napkins, and bowls.

Arrival Instructions: Please pre-heat your chili and arrive about 30 minutes before we open. You will need to bring your chili in something that can keep it warm for several hours, such as a Crock-Pot. We will provide as many plugs as we can for food warmers. Tasting and judging will take place from 10 AM to 1 PM. Your chili will be given a random ID number for voting purposes.

Don’t be shy about your chili, and bring a good amount as we did run out of some selections last year before voting ended!

Chili Selection Process: Each voter will be given a ballot to select their favorite from the chili samples they tasted. At 1:00 PM, all of the votes will be tallied, and the chili with the greatest number of votes will win 1st place, the chili with the next greatest number of votes will win 2nd place, and the chili with the next greatest number of votes will win 3rd place.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to 1st through 3rd place contestants! We are looking forward to tasting your chili!

Painting Beyond Sight with John Bramblitt (14 Sep 2026)

Join artist John Bramblitt for a fun and unforgettable community art experience! The event begins with a short talk, live painting, and demonstration, followed by a hands-on blindfold painting activity where participants create using touch, intuition, and imagination.

Expect plenty of laughter, creativity, and a few surprises along the way. No art experience is needed—just come ready to try something new, have fun, and discover what happens when you let go and create beyond sight.

John Bramblitt is an internationally recognized artist based in Texas who lost his sight in 2001 due to epilepsy and Lyme disease. Turning to painting as a way to reconnect with the world, he became the world's first blind muralist and is recognized as a pioneering figure among blind artists worldwide. His work has reached audiences in more than 120 countries and has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, the BBC, and the Discovery Channel. His work is exhibited around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and the Kennedy Center.

INK THE BLOCK PARTY (19 Sep 2026)

INK THE BLOCK PARTY is back for it's second iteration in Downtown Norman's Walker Arts District featuring Live Mural Painting, Arts Market, Music and Steamroller Printing!!! Experience Norman’s local arts community at a free, family-friendly block party celebrating creativity in all its forms on the East 300 block of Crawford Ave in Downtown Norman. Shop small and support creatives while enjoying a local arts market, downtown food and drinks, and Game Day festivities!

The event will take place on September 19th on Crawford St. between Main and Gray St. with live performances by local musicians at the Opolis Stage. Uncanny Art House will host live mural-painting stations featuring a handful of local painters, as well as community paint wall for attendees to participate. OSC-Press will facilitate an outdoor local arts market and present the festival’s signature attraction: large-scale woodblock printing using a full-size steamroller provided by Silver Star Construction LLC.

Gray Owl Coffee will serve coffee, treats, and specialty drinks in the arts market, along with local Norman breweries.

Attendees are also encouraged to watch the OU football game and explore plenty of food and drink options at surrounding Downtown spots like The Standard, the Garage, Sooner Daiquiri, Red Brick Bar, Prohibition Lounge, Bluebonnet Bar, and the Custard Factory.

“INK THE BLOCK PARTY is about showcasing the powerful creative scene growing in Norman while supporting our small businesses, nonprofits and working artists/musicians! It’s a chance for people to come together, cultivate community and experience art in a fun, interactive way that incorporates a giant piece of construction equipment!” said Jenna Bryan and Eric Piper, event organizers and owner/operators of OSC-Press.

"Last year was our first time undertaking an event this size. We were so blown away by its success and the positive feedback from our community that we knew we had to bring it back this year! "Applied Color” an Art Sale and Showcase Featuring Nick Berry and W. Bennett Berry at Howell Gallery (1 Oct 2026)

SEASAM (Southeastern Art Show and Market) (2 Oct 2026)

The Southeastern Art Show and Market (SEASAM) and SEASAM Youth has been part of the Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival since 2005. SEASAM and SEASAM Youth provide a unique marketplace where adult and youth artists from federally recognized Southeastern tribes can flourish. The competition portion of the adult market includes a Best of Show award, Best of Division and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in each category. Youth competition awards include Best of Show and Best of Division awards and judges' awards.

Artist Spotlight: Caddo, Chase Kahwinhut Earles

Caddo artist Chase Kahwinhut Earles is a potter whose work bridges traditional Caddo practices and contemporary design. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Earles is helping revive a Caddo pottery tradition that nearly disappeared after the last known Caddo potter stopped working around 1908.

Earles follows traditional methods throughout his process, digging his own clay, gathering mussel shell temper, burnishing each piece by hand and pit firing his work in open ground fires. After firing, he hand carves unique designs into every piece.

His work is held in permanent collections at the Autry Museum, Oklahoma Capitol, Crystal Bridges Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, the Eiteljorg Museum and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian among others. Earles’ work has earned numerous prestigious awards, including recently Best of Show at the 2025 Hushtola Art Market, Best of Show at the 2025 Cherokee Art Market, 2025 SEASAM Art Market and two first place ribbons at SWAIA – Santa Fe Indian Art Market.

9th Annual Steamroller Printmaking Art Festival (3 Oct 2026)

Art enthusiasts and community members are invited to one of Oklahoma City’s most dynamic cultural celebrations—the 9th Annual Steamroller Printmaking Art Festival at ARTSPACE at Untitled.

At the center of the festival is a captivating public performance where local and regional artists carve woodblocks, which are inked and pressed on-site using an industrial steamroller as a giant printing press.

Festival Highlights:

Steamroller Printmaking: Festival-goers can watch oversized works of art come to life in real time.

Interactive Art Stations: Attendees can try their hand at monotypes and block printing under the guidance of experienced artists.

Artist Market: Visitors can browse and purchase unique, handmade prints and goods directly from local creators.

Food & Drinks: Guests can enjoy local flavors from a variety of Oklahoma City food trucks.

16mm Direct Animation Workshop (10 Oct 2026)

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the art and history of direct animation, working directly with 16mm motion picture film and projection. Over four sessions, participants will explore this unique cinematic language by painting, scratching, masking, and physically manipulating 16mm leader and found footage to create your own animated film. Each participant will receive over 100 feet of film to work on, an HD digital scan of their finished project, and the skills needed to continue their filmmaking practice.

Bread & Puppet Theater: The Upside Down World Circus (10 Oct 2026)

The one and only Bread & Puppet Circus is hitting the road! This fall The Upside Down World Circus will tour cities and towns across the country, landing in Oklahoma City on October 10th, 2026! Get ready for a show featuring puppets big and small, acts serious and silly, and performances slapstick and sublime. Stilt dancers, papier-maché beasts, and a riotous brass band make a raucous, colorful spectacle of protest and celebration.

With this show, director Peter Schumann asks, “Is it or is it not? Am I asleep or am I awake? Am I a cockroach or am I me?” He continues with a distinctly Bread & Puppet call to action: “Possibilitarians! We must demonstrate humanity’s upside-down situation in the face of the government’s depraved falsehoods. Luxury silence and despair must be replaced by revolt orchestras that radically oppose the radically wrong system. It is time to unforget the revolution-in-progress and aim for the evermore on the universe’s shore.”

After the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books, posters, postcards, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale.

In addition to the performance on Saturday, October 10th, the Oklahoma City tour stop also includes a hands-on workshop opportunity. On Friday, October 9th, 6-9pm the Bread & Puppet crew will host 30 participants who will go behind-the-scenes of the show. Bread & Puppet’s work features diverse puppetry and street theater performance styles to tell vital stories of the moment. Through the lens of a rehearsal process, participants in the workshop will be introduced to these performance styles and methods. The workshop culminates with participants performing alongside Bread & Puppet company members in the performance the following day.

Now in its 63rd year, Bread & Puppet will tour to some of its regular fall stops including New York, Cambridge, and Baltimore, as well as to cities and towns in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri.
