About Doug Cannell:
Doug Cannell is an artist whose works have been exhibited in museums and art galleries throughout the United States. Born and schooled in Detroit, Cannell earned a BFA degree from Wayne State University, continued at the College for Creative Studies, and now works from his Detroit studio, a former stamping plant. His sculpture is almost entirely abstract. While his choice of materials has evolved, an aesthetic throughline is present in his practice which often blurs the lines between art, craft and design. His work is distinguished by his use of contrasting materials, textures, and the juxtaposition of the organic and the industrial. Since 2023, his work is highly informed by his practice as a graphic designer, a field in which he has also worked steadily. Cannell also teaches at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
