I photograph mostly outdoors, including landscapes, waterscapes, structures, flowers and animals. Recently I moved into photoartistry, manipulating my images to tell a larger and more artistic story.
Artist Statement
Photographs have always drawn me in; I aspire to capture images that encourage viewers to experience that same sense of attraction. Photographing outdoors especially entices me. I must photograph flowers – that is a given – but I also enjoy all varieties of plants and animals as well as interesting shapes and textures found in nature. Mountains and meadows, streams and waterfalls, clouds and weather demand my attention, as do sunsets, modes of transportation, and buildings old and new.
Although I still love a beautiful photograph, recently I have been moving toward a more artistic approach to finishing my photographs. This forces me to look differently at my photos, considering how I can enhance them to tell a larger story. I feel that I am only beginning to explore the opportunities this offers.
Artist Bio
I have been taking pictures since I purchased my first single lens reflex film camera in my 20s. Through classes, workshops, online courses, and experience, I strive to improve my skill. As an art lover who was never able to draw or paint, I have found my artistic voice in photography.
I had a one-woman photography show at the Oklahoma State Capitol North Gallery in 2015. I also had a solo show at the Chisholm Trail Arts Council Gallery that year. My work was featured on the cover and inside the Playbill for CTAC Live! concert series two years in a row. I frequently have works in local shows in Duncan and win places in local contests.
Each year I publish a desk calendar, “Flowers pure and simple,” which is sold in local stores and online.
