Lillard often uses reclaimed materials in order to create interactive, immersive or functional art.
Artist Statement
The materials I choose to sculpt with are dependent upon each object’s context. Hence, all my sculptures present unique challenges. This is why the list of materials I work with grows and so does collaboration between those possessing different technical skills.
Artist Bio
Nick Lillard is a found object, mixed media sculptor from Oklahoma. He works with groups of other artists and engineers that collaborate so as to create immersive art atmospheres or functional, art objects. Permanent works by Lillard can be found ordaining the University of Oklahoma's campus and other schools in central Oklahoma. Nick primarily works with metal and plastic, often he groups the two materials together in order to make bright and expressive forms for outdoor venues. The materials I choose to sculpt with are dependent upon each object’s context. Hence, all my sculptures present unique challenges. This is why the list of materials I work with grows and so does collaboration between those possessing different technical skills.
Currently, I often weld small, architectural structures from steel, then add onto them with other materials, such as recycled plastic, ceramic or wood. From this I’ve created durable, outdoor art. The aesthetic methods I use attempt to capture the essence of some type of motion or series of events.
