Artist Statement
I have a solid love of color and life and I paint because it is such an expressive medium. While I sometimes do abstract work, I feel a need to connect my painting to reality, through forms, solidity, distance, and light. I paint to learn, to experiment, to express, and to keep from getting bored. I would like to get better. I believe in the healthy practice of stealing good ideas from others and believe that communities of artists are a good thing.
Artist Bio
I was born in Ponca City and have lived all of my life here, except for a bit of time spent in Stillwater at OSU and in Edmond while attending CSU, where I graduated with an art degree in 1977.
Avoiding commercial art, I tooka job as a Letter Carrier because I wanted an income and was afraid to dive off the deep end of the pool. Union activities took up a lot of my 'down' time and painting was a guilty pleasure. I managed to paint a couple of murals during my 35 years as a mailman.
I retired at the end of 2012 and have been trying to make up for lost painting time since then.
