I draw and paint people and other things.
Artist Statement
Family life, mental health, personal relationships, distractions, social functions, and the inability to remember things I didn't take pictures of are all integral to my practice as an artist. My current body of work is a focus on process- blending formal approach with conceptual rules and constraints determined by imposing mystic/imagined significance to each piece. My personal spiritual beliefs are an amalgamation of the weirdest parts of the various stories I’ve been told by earnest people, the scariest parts of the system I was indoctrinated to believe, and the funniest parts of Ernest Scared Stupid. I am using this basis of belief to produce work that will hopefully be accidentally esoterically meaningful.
Artist Bio
Cody Wilson in an Oklahoma born artist. His relationships with the people and social landscapes of Oklahoma influence his work and provide a lens for his perception of history, memory, mysticism, and truth. He received a BFA in Painting from East Central University in Ada, OK in 2010. He has participated in shows with OVAC, IAO, Resonator Institute, Ada Artist Association, and Ada Arts Council. Cody is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting from The University of Oklahoma.
Figurative work, and portraiture make up the core of his work, and provide a starting point for larger narratives and themes. He attempts to stay active artistically by drawing people in person when possible or maintaining his social media in a way that makes him feel validated. You can find part of him on the internet all of the time, and all of him in-person some of the time.
