The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition is constantly striving to serve Oklahoma artists better. OVAC exhibitions are only one of the many ways that OVAC is helping create opportunities for artists.
OVAC is pleased to announce the launch of a new survey exhibition in fall 2011 at the Visual Arts Center in Tulsa.
As yet unnamed, this survey exhibition will have broad appeal for audiences to see many types of artwork. The new survey exhibition will combine VisionMakers and Biennial along with all other visual media. The format will stay similar, with artwork selected from images by a guest curator with a broad background. Eligible works will be made in the two years previous to the exhibition by Oklahoma artists who are not students. Taking place biennially, the new exhibition will have significantly increased cash awards. We will offer more opportunities for dialogue with the guest curator(s) through written feedback, portfolio reviews, and studio visits for select artists. Also, OVAC will focus on educational opportunities for the public to learn more about working artists. The new Visual Arts Center in Tulsa will be a perfect partner with established educational programs and a sizable gallery.
In summary, OVAC’s exhibition rotation will now include the new survey show biennially, beginning in fall 2011;
Art 365 occurring triennially; and
Momentum OKC and Tulsa annually. We are also working with
IAO Gallery on
24 Works on Paper, an exhibition that travels the state for a year beginning in July 2009.
We
invite your ideas for naming the exhibition as we have only begun brainstorming. Please
email Julia or call 405-879-2400 with ideas or questions.
